Crowns are dental caps placed over your teeth to protect them and make them stronger. They are usually placed when you have undergone a root canal treatment or have a broken tooth. Dental crowns can fully restore the function, durability and appearance of your teeth. They can be fabricated using several materials such as porcelain, gold and ceramic.
What Does Getting a Crown Involve?
The procedure usually takes two appointments. In the first appointment, impressions of your teeth are taken. Several impressions may be taken for accuracy and to create temporary and permanent crowns for your use. The temporary crown will immediately be fixed after removing any decay. In the second appointment, the temporary crown will be removed, your tooth will be cleaned, and the permanent crown will be carefully cemented in place.
If you have lost one or more adjacent teeth, we can replace your missing teeth and restore your smile with dental bridges. A dental bridge can fill the gap created by missing teeth and help in preventing repositioning of the remaining teeth. It can also help maintain your facial structure, restore chewing and speaking ability, and prevent the remaining teeth from shifting out of place. They look and feel like natural teeth as well.
What Does Getting a Bridge Involve?
The process begins with the dentist filing down the adjacent teeth and taking measurements to prepare the bridge. Measurements or impressions are taken to fabricate the bridge. A temporary bridge will be made and worn for several weeks until your next appointment. On your second visit, the permanent bridge is fixed in place with dental cement. This bridge will be temporarily cemented to allow your teeth and tissue to get used to it. It will be permanently cemented at a later time.
Teeth can lose their colour over time due to wear and tear, eating habits or diseases. Teeth whitening (or bleaching) is a simple, non-invasive dental treatment used to change the colour of natural tooth enamel. Stains can be removed with carbamide peroxide or hydrogen peroxide. These are safe and effective formulas that help give you a whiter and more attractive smile. The procedure provides instant results – you can transform your smile in two appointments. Our dentist may recommend at-home kits if you cannot come to the clinic.
What Does Teeth Whitening Involve?
First, impressions of your teeth are taken to fabricate clear, plastic trays. At your second appointment, you will try on the trays for proper fit, and adjustments will be made if necessary. You will then wear these trays with a special whitening solution as directed by the dentist. The duration of the treatment depends on the degree of staining and the desired level of whitening. Instructions for proper care will be given after the procedure is completed.
If you have stained, cracked, broken or misaligned teeth, or unwanted or uneven spaces between your teeth veneers may be right for you. Veneers are thin shells made of porcelain or composite resin that cover the front of your teeth. They give your teeth a whiter and straighter look. Veneers can often be alternatives to crowns and the ideal solution in treating many dental conditions. They are very durable and will last many years, giving you a beautiful, long-lasting smile.
What Does Getting Veneers Involve?
Getting veneers usually requires two visits to complete the process. On your first visit, the teeth are lightly buffed and shaped to accommodate the veneer. An impression of the teeth is taken, and a shade (colour) will then be chosen by you and the dentist. On the second visit, your teeth will be cleansed, and the veneer will be attached with bonding cement. Your dentist will give you care instructions after the process is completed.
BOTOX® is a natural purified protein that helps relax overactive muscles that cause chronic pain. It is also used for aesthetic reasons, allowing us to change the way your smile looks. We provide BOTOX® injections in dental treatments for oral and maxillofacial cosmetic and therapeutic use. They are used to treat TMJ disorder, bruxism and other orthodontic therapies.
The muscle-relaxing properties of BOTOX® will help lower the symptoms of the disorders and provide a therapeutic experience. Our dentist has performed several BOTOX® procedures. You can discuss with Dr. James Evanson if this procedure is right for your condition.
